Athletics Committee – Tracy Manning and Allison Marsh
The dates for the athletics banquets will be as follows: Fall- November 10th, Winter- February 9th, and Spring- May 2nd.  Please consult Coach McGuire’s website for more information.

Community Outreach/Backpack Buddies – Kelly Divine and Heather Watkins
Daniels is partnering with White Memorial Presbyterian Church again this year for the Backpack Buddies program.  The church will provide the food for all the backpacks.  The first delivery is scheduled for Wednesday September 28th and the first distribution will be on Friday the 30th at the end of the day.  Volunteers of the committee will gather on Wednesday evening or Thursday during the day to sort and pack the food. We have contacted those who indicated an interest in volunteering for this committee and are in the process of finalizing our exact needs as well as a schedule for packing.  We should be notifying everyone by the end of next week.

Membership Committee – Leigh Ann Kerr and Paige Peden
As of September 8, 2016, the DMS PTA has approximately 225 memberships including 70 teacher memberships.

Reflections Committee – Valerie deLoach and Stacey Penn
We are working with Dr. Battle and the department heads and special education department to get a great representation for Daniels this school year. The National PTA Reflections Program is an arts recognition and achievement program for Pre-K- 12th grade students. It offers these students opportunities to express themselves creatively in six different art categories and to receive positive recognition for original works of art inspired by a pre-selected theme. Please review the information on the website to learn more about the program and to access the forms needed for students. The Reflections theme for 2016-2017 is “What is Your Story?” Collections are through the end of October. More information will be coming soon.

Sportswear – Jennifer Doefler and Marybeth Deprato
The Sportswear committee has two different ways to volunteer this year; regular sales at events and fulfillment of online orders.  If you choose order fulfillment, you would fill all online orders that come in for a month from the sportswear supplies kept at school.  You can do this as often as you like as long as it’s at least every two weeks.  You may not even get any orders to fill in a month. More detailed instructions will be provided to those who sign up. Click here to sign up for one or more shifts.

Building on Success of the Past and Embracing an Exciting Future – Welcome to a New Year at Daniels! President’s Message & Information regarding PTA Meeting on 9/8/16

As PTA President, it is my privilege to welcome you and your family to the 2016-2017 school year at Daniels!  VP Keena Katzenbach and I have been hard at work, along with the rest of the Daniels PTA leadership team, planning programs and working closely with Dr. Battle throughout the summer.  We are excited about what’s in store for our school community this year.

Our first PTA General Membership meeting will be held prior to the Open House on September 8th at 6p.  Our committee schedule for future PTA General Membership meetings is listed on this website under Calendar.  We encourage you all to attend!  For your information, the September 8th PTA Mtg Agenda , April 16, 2016 PTA Meeting Minutes and 2016-2017 PTA budget are linked here. In addition, our teachers and staff had the opportunity to attend a fabulous seminar entitled “Capturing Kid’s Hearts” prior to the start of school.  Capturing Kids’ Hearts is a process that is working in thousands of classrooms across the country to provide the strategy and training for teachers and administrators to achieve success in today’s classrooms. This program will help give our teachers, who are passionate about their subject & care for the welfare and success of their students, the tools they need to engage and challenge students, and raise them to a higher level of performance.  At the PTA meeting, we will welcome Ms. Kreitman, 8th grade teacher at Daniels, as she shares the impact that this innovative results-driven program has had on the start of our school year!

In addition, the PTA has worked over the summer to improve our communications with parents. Starting with the launch of this new and improved Danielspta.org website and our @daniels_pta twitter account, we will be streamlining our numerous means of communications and enhancing our information sharing process.  We have shut down our old Yahoo group email and moved forward with Mailchimp for our PTA and school communications.  As Jane Hull once said, “At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child’s success is the positive involvement of parents.”  We believe that includes all people involved with our middle school students and our PTA should drive that involvement through access to information and we will focus on that communication process this year.

I urge you to be an active part of the exciting year ahead. It is with your support that we are able to do so many great things to enhance the educational experience for our children. The partnership of parents and teachers makes the education of our children successful.

I encourage you to contact Keena Katzenbach or me if you have any questions, suggestions, or are looking for a way to get involved in Daniel’s PTA.  I look forward to working with all of you as we continue to celebrate our teachers, our students and, the school.  We are all so fortunate to be a part of Daniels Middle School!
